You may have heard the term before… but what exactly is a trail fairy?
A trail fairy is that rider who clears a branch off the trail, moves a rock out of the way, or reports a bigger issue so it can be fixed properly. They’re the quiet stewards of our trail network—the ones who help keep things running smoothly for everyone.
If you’ve ever come across a downed tree or drainage issue and thought, “Should I be doing something about this?”—you’re not alone.
The good news is, you can learn how.
Trail Maintenance Seminar – April 2
NOCS is hosting a Trail Maintenance Workshop on April 2 at the Vernon Library, designed for anyone interested in getting more involved with trail stewardship.
This session will cover:
The basics of trail care
How to perform light, approved maintenance
How to identify and report larger trail issues
How to help educate other trail users on trail etiquette
Prizes will be a part of this learning session!
Participants will be encouraged to take on an informal Trail Steward (or Trail Fairy!) role—helping maintain the trails and representing NOCS in a positive way out on the network.
We’ve heard from many members who want to contribute—this is your chance to get started.
We’re also planning a trail build seminar later this spring, so keep an eye out for more details.
With a big season of trail work ahead, these skills will go a long way.
